Whilst this is not exactly enormous amounts of money, we are entitled to claim.
It is claimed by writing to the tax office quoting your tax reference/National Insurance number to the address in Middlesbrough below;

The claim is under Section 336 ITEPA 2003 for household expenses.
In order to claim you have to certify that you meet the following criteria;
1. The duties that you perform at home are substantive part of your duties.

2. Those duties can not be performed without the use of appropriate facilities (i.e. computer/printer etc)

3. No such facilities are available to you on the employer's premises or that the nature of the job requires the employee to live so far away from the employer's premises that it is unreasonable to travel to those premises on a daily basis.

4. At no time either before or after the employment contract is drawn up is the employee able to choose between working from home or at the employer's premises or elsewhere.

Since we fit the above criteria, there should be no problem with the claim and we can look forward to a massive £156 to heat our homes during the cold winter months ahead. (I am not sure if they remove holiday periods out of this number or not).
